The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine

Sounds a bit like if Placebo were lots more exciting.

B+

Placebo - Battle For The Sun

Sounds a bit like if The Thermals were quite dull.

C-

Kylesa - Static Tensions

Sludgy, psychedelic, angry, slow, fast... They have two frigging drummers!

She - Coloris

Brilliant chiptune madness, but the tracks could have been longer.

B-

Rancid - Let the Dominoes Fall

How very bland. Where did all the energy go, boys?

D-

Stewart Lee - What Would Judas Do?

Turns out Judas wasn't the bad guy after all - beautiful.

B-

Pink Punk - Zoo Politics

This is what political poetry is all about - underrated gem.

Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.

Utter shit. Autotune overkill, and none of that distinctive character.

F

Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Agorapocalypse

Cybergrind gods produce "proper" album - still intense, just as brutal.

A

Enter Shikari - Common Dreads

"That band with the claps" produce more mature second album.

Night at the Musuem

Night at the Museum: Reminds me of the kids films I grew up with.

A

Sharks/The Skints/Farse

Sharks: Uninteresting pop punk, only made bearable by pouting, prancing guitarist.

The Skints: Youthful exuberance, a singing drummer, rudeboy ska from Landahn Tahn.

Farse: Have only got better with the five year wait. Phenomenal.

Overall: Dull support act, fun support act, then utter ska genius.

B+

Alun Cochrane

Alun Cochrane: In his own words: Flinging shit to see what sticks.

B-

Ed Byrne

Ed Byrne: Class based humour that really struck a chord with me.

B+

The Sword/Machine Head/Metallica

The Sword: Were probably great, but I was at the hotel, drinking.

Machine Head: Muddy sound, dull to watch, Rob Flynn is a midget.

Metallica: I'm clearly biased, but they're the best band I've seen.

Overall: Almost as good as when they played all of "Puppets".

A+

Elis James/Rhod Gilbert

Elis James: Self effacing Welshman provides well researched Oswestry bashing fun.

Rhod Gilbert: Camarthen born tirade of anger from a mind like mine.

Overall: Two of the brightest stars in Welsh standup exceed expectations.

A

Flobots/Anti-Flag/Rise Against

Flobots: Didn't fucking see them, the queue was far too long.

Anti Flag: Punk rock babies throwing their toys out of their prams.

Rise Against: Melodic hardcore masters give fans long set, perhaps too long?

Overall: Giant circle pits, overwrought mock politics, sweat dripping from pipes.

The first post...

So, if you've read the title, I'm pretty sure you'll understand what this site is all about. Essentially, the idea is this: I see/hear/read something, I post a ten word review of it here. For gigs, each band will get their own ten words, and then there'll be a sum-up at the end. Then, at the end of each review, there'll be a grade, like the ones you used to get on your maths homework - A+ to F.

Feel free to get in touch and send your work over for review, I promise I won't pull any punches.

What follows are my previous ten word reviews, taken from Myspace.
